Trees are such a beautiful symbol to incorporate into weddings. Growth, renewal, seasons of change, strength and comfort- you just have to refer back to a trusty childhood favorite- Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree to be reminded of the beautiful symbolism. Ceremony's held near a majestic old tree are so special. At our beach wedding, we incorporated a Wish Tree (as an alternative to a guest book or photo with guest signatures) constructed from manzanita branches held in square glass base filled with seashells. It had a beachy driftwood look and all our guests hung notes on the branches. The "wishes" they wrote for us as a new married couple still make me laugh and cry. Five year old Lucy misunderstood the opportunity for deep thoughts and wrote " I wish for a stuffed bear as big as me".

This idea, courtesy of seven eight offers another clever tree theme-all the guests leave a leaf thumb print and sign their name. A reminder that your lives together branch out to so many friends and family. Such an artistic alternative to the framed photo with signatures around the perimeter. This would be a wonderful memory to hang in a first home.
